Presentation The RBA brought down money rates by 25 premise focuses in December, 2012 to 4.25 and has saved it on hold for the time being four months straight. In its April, 2012 choice, the RBA left the money rate unaltered to the amazement of many. The subsequent part covers a survey of writing, which additionally prese nts the significant discoveries and conversations. The last part presents synopsis/end and proposals of the report. Writing Review Banks are here and there compelled to acquire cash from different relies upon a transient premise to cover liquidity setbacks coming about because of client withdrawals. Interbank financing costs in this way mean premium banks charge on such momentary credits. Frequently, loan costs observe the law of interest and flexibly and somewhat swelling and exercises in the monetary market. Be that as it may, the administration, through national bank, has a state on the predominant interbank loan costs particularly as a way to containing swelling or facilitating credit crunch. Since December 2011, the RBA has kept interbank loan costs on hold at 4.25%. This choice, particularly as made in April 2012, went to the shock of numerous who figured the RBA would bring down the rates further to 4.0%. Be that as it may, what reasons did RBA give for the hold? Explanations behind leaving the money rate unaltered According to the minutes of RBA load up meeting on third April 2012, the choice not to ease financing costs additionally was guided by the overall worldwide and national monetary conditions. It was noted during the gathering that the world was relied upon to encounter an underneath pattern pace monetary development rate in 2012, with Europe debilitating while China and Asia facilitating in development pace (RBA, 2012). Nonetheless, the board noticed that the US, Australia’s principle exchanging accomplice, was in its recuperation and development for the year 2012 is required to be about normal. The load up additionally noted improved notions in the money related market following noteworthy advancement in settling supportability of the monetary and obligation positions in numerous European nations (RBA, 2012). At the local level, the board noticed a decrease sought after contrasted with the year 2011 just as facilitating conditions in t he lodging area. Work economic situations in Australia likewise indicated an expansion in joblessness rates. Swelling was, in any case, answered to be inside the objective, however the board noticed the absence of information on expansion. The board’s choice was additionally guided by the way that Australia’s money related conditions stayed unaltered in March, with financing costs on advances staying near medium-term midpoints, while trade rates stayed high and credit development unobtrusive (RBA, 2012).Advertising We will compose a custom report test on Interest Rate Disparity among RBA and Major Australian Banks explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More Reasons for banks not coordinating RBA premium cuts Even as the RBA kept up the money rates on hold for four months straight, just little to medium size banks have brought down their loan costs to coordinate RBA cuts. Significant banks are still yet to coordinate their financing costs with RBA loan fee cu ts. A few banks have even raised their loan fees. Yet, what motivations to they give for such reactions? It is significant that RBA’s month to month interbank loan fee isn't the main impact on banks’ loaning rates. Most banks in Australia procure credit from worldwide banks subsequently their loan costs is incredibly impacted by exercises in the worldwide budgetary markets (ANZ, 2012). Regularly, banks accuse high financing costs related with the debilitating of the European economy for inability to bring down loan costs. Most Australian banks rely upon worldwide obtaining particularly from European nations to compensate for their liquidity setbacks. The monetary emergency in Europe, which started in late 2011, has implied that Australian banks procure credit at a high loan fee consequently bringing down their loaning rates to coordinate RBA premium cuts appear to be ridiculous. For example, ANZ has been raising its loan costs since February 2012, regardless of RBAâ₠¬â„¢s choice to keep money rates on hold (ANZ, 2012). The bank has accused subsidizing costs coming about because of debilitating movement in the worldwide money related market as adequate purpose behind raising its financing costs, in spite of RBA’s premium cuts. At the residential level, banks have refered to diminished acquiring rates and expanded rivalry for stores as their purposes behind not coordinating with RBA premium cuts (Australian Bankers Association, 2012). Stores establish 60% of banks fluid capital (Australian Bankers Association, 2012). Rivalry for stores implies that banks might be confronted with liquidity setbacks as banks battle for the couple of stores. In addition, most banks relied upon house proprietors as the primary borrowers, yet decreased movement in the lodging area has seen numerous clients maintain a strategic distance from bank credits and rather select to reimburse past advances. This solitary implies that the interest for credits has radical ly diminished subsequently banks are just left with the choice of keeping loan costs high to have the option to make profits.Advertising Searching for report on business financial aspects? We should check whether we can support you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Find out More In any case, the RBA treasurer, Wayne Swan, accepts that banks should pass premium slices to people in general. As indicated by him, the facts demonstrate that banks are working under troublesome worldwide money related condition, yet they ought to likewise be worried about their neighborhood borrowers and give premium slices to the general population (Financial Review, 2011b). He cautions that if banks neglect to bring down their financing costs to coordinate with RBA premium cuts, at that point they ought to be prepared to confront the fury of clients who certainly will be maddened by such disobedience. Comparable weight on banks to coordinate their loan costs with RBA premium cuts has additionally been communicated by government Finance Minister, Penny Wong, who noticed that bank’s inability to give loan fee slices to the general population could deny families with contract worth $300, 000 a month to month sparing of up to $49 (Financial Review, 2011a). As a business examin er, I bolster the Treasurer’s call for banks to coordinate their loan fees with RBA premium cuts. While banks over and over notice the significant expense of discount credit from global monetary market as adequate explanation behind them not to coordinate their loan fees with RBA premium cuts, it ought to be noticed that universal getting just records for 20% of the banks’ wellsprings of financing (Colebath, 2012). The equalization is created locally from client stores (bookkeeping 60%) and transient bonds (bookkeeping 20%) (Colebath, 2012). While the global expense of financing may have risen, residential expenses have not risen thus it would just be reasonable for banks to give premium slices to the clients who structure a generous wellspring of their subsidizing. Universal correlations Similar money related strategies on money rate cuts have been seen across Europe, China and India. The European Central Bank raised benchmark rate by 25 premise focuses in April 2012, however kept interbank loan fees on hold at 1% (Song, 2012). Much the same as Australian banks, European banks are still yet to coordinate their financing costs. In China, the People’s Bank of China brought down banks’ save necessity proportion (RRR) by 0.5% in December, 2011 out of an offer to ease momentary credit crunch (Xin and Yao, 2011).

Is Trying lying And are you truly committed to your New Years resolutions

Is Trying lying And are you truly committed to your New Years resolutions A good friend of mine recently sent me his New Year’s resolutions: #1   Be here now. #2   Keep it real. #3   Try to answer e-mail promptly. I was taken aback by #3.   First, it was the only one that required specific action, and I wondered why he would choose returning e-mails above all the other important actions to take in this world, and over a more general commitment to “Keep in close and regular contact with people important to me” or “Take action quickly on items of importance.” Even more than that, however, I was struck by the insertion of the word “Try.” Is Trying Lying? I have spent the last 10 years or so reducing the incidence of the word “try” in my spoken and written communications.   In a women’s empowerment program I was taught, “Trying is lying.” In a completely different seminar, the instructor had someone hold a tissue box in the air and said, “Try to drop the tissue box.” The person dropped the tissue box, and was met with, “No, you just dropped the tissue box. I told you to try to drop the tissue box.”   In another seminar, a different instructor did the same exercise, asking a participant to “Try to pick up that chair.”   Trying to pick it up looked like holding on to the chair and pretending to pick it up but not actually doing it. “Trying” to do something, as illustrated in these examples, is as good as not doing the thing at all.  You’re not doing it, and you’re not not doing it.   Trying leaves you in an in-between place that, in my understanding, is ultimately powerless and ineffective. Excuses, Excuses We as human beings often use trying as an excuse.   Have you gotten that project done?   “No… but I tried!   I just kept getting distracted.”   Have you lost the weight you said you would?   “No…   but I tried.”   Why isn’t your relationship going the way you want it to?   “I don’t know…   I’m trying so hard to make it work.”  We say things like “I’ll try to be there on time” so that if we’re not on time we haven’t broken a promise.   We human beings are so sneaky! Ultimately, a choice is required.   Either you do it or you don’t.   If you don’t do it, I believe the most powerful stance is to take responsibility that you didn’t do it.   If you’re still committed to a result, then do something else that works to get that result.   As another wise person pointed out, the way to attain any goal in life is to keep taking action until you achieve it.   Sounds so simple doesn’t it? Compassion is Key My New Year’s resolution friend disagreed with my take on trying.   He wrote, “I affirm the importance of stating, ‘I will try.’   Its like saying, ‘I intend.’   It sends a message to myself and others about how I am organizing my spiritual energies.”   When I asked why he didn’t write “Try” for his other resolutions, he responded, “… Its the only one of the three that doesnt come to me naturally.   So I must try harder.   :-)”   (He also mentioned that if following #3 were to contradict #1 and/or #2, he would choose not to follow #3.   We have all seen the negative consequences of impulsive or compulsive e-mailing!) I understand the value of compassion, and I understand that we sometimes go through stages in our level of commitment to a goal.   Perhaps a gentle entry (like a promise to “try”) can be useful for taking on promises we don’t know if we will keep.   Certainly, if we don’t meet one of our promises, it doesn’t help to beat ourselves up about it.   Using the word “try” lets us succeed even when we fail.   But can’t we have compassion even if we frame our promises as absolute?   If I resolve to “answer e-mail promptly” instead of to “try” to do so, and then I don’t answer promptly, I might be empowered by acknowledging that I didn’t do it, looking at why I didn’t do it, and, if appropriate, making a new promise or doing it a different way next time.   To me, that’s “keeping it real.” Honesty The Best Policy New Year’s resolutions are notoriously not kept, and I wonder if the reason is that people put a silent, implied “Try” before every one of them.   If we truly resolve to do something, rather than to try to do it, we live a more powerful life and one where results will show up with more reliability. At least my friend put “try” where it could be seen, instead of pretending something was true that was not.  A straightforward acknowledgement of one’s tendency toward fallibility might be more powerful than having “trying” live in the unsaid.   At least with an honest promise, there’s room to grow.   In the end, we must each choose the language and intention that work for us, in service of living up to our greatest promises and resolutions.

Social Psychology Definition Paper Free Essays

With only the unifying concept of social interaction, social psychology occupies a no-man’s land somewhere between psychology, sociology, physiology, and evolutionary theory in the uncultivated areas of the social sciences (Harold, 2000). Biology offers up the principles of natural selection and adaptation as causal explanations for everything from human mating practices to index finger length, and sociology offers explanations for social structure and organization; it is to social psychology that falls the task of explaining how people think about, affect, and interact with one another on a psychological, biological, and social level (Myers, 2008; Pinel, 2007). If genetic and biological predisposition is the violin and environmental factors the violinist, then the bow of social interaction is the instrument by which the two conjugate to create music for example cognition and behavior. We will write a custom essay sample on Social Psychology Definition Paper or any similar topic only for you Order Now Though, in light of an examination of the main ideas and research methods of social psychology—as well as a comparison between related fields—the particular function of social interaction, as it relates to biology and psychology, comes into focus. Main Ideas of Social Psychology. Social psychologists study a set of strategies for answering questions related to attitudes and beliefs, the way we construe our world, and conformity and independence; rather than simply an objective compilation of findings. Some of the main ideas that social psychology seeks to address are: 1) the construction of our social reality; 2) social intuition; 3) how social influences, personal attitudes, personality, and biology shape our behavior; and 4) how social psychology’s principles can be applied in everyday life (Myers, 2008). The construction of our social reality rests on the materialistic assumption that an objective world exists quite separate from our subjective interpretation of that world, but that we can only view reality through the lens of our beliefs and values. Moreover, it is clear that the mechanism of social intuition—automatic processing, heuristics, and implicit memory—can be very powerful when utilize for fast and frugal snap judgments but it could also be perilous when more reasoned thinking is required. Our behavior is shape by many influences that can be external and internal. We are a social animal, which means that our cultural predispositions define our circumstances. It is also apparent that our attitudes and personality play a significant role in shaping behavior as well. Sometimes offsetting and sometimes reinforcing social pressures. Above all else, the idea that we are bio-psycho-social organisms operating on several levels and at the bequest of many influences assists in explaining the multi-verse of human behavior. At last, the practical application of social psychology’s analytical tools and explanations to the subjective beliefs, attitudes, and relationships of everyday life can help people know themselves better, think smarter, and make better decisions. The specific means by which social psychologists ascertain the aforementioned analytical tools and explanations is encapsulate in the implementation of research Methodology Research Methods of Social Psychology. There is three main avenues through which social psychologists can elucidate the facts of individual social interaction: 1) correlation research; 2) experimental research; and 3) survey research. The very basis of the scientific method is the postulation that a theory can be explain or predicted by means of hypothesis testing, through the medium of observable events. Correlation research seeks to explain naturally occurring relationships among variables, but does not have the ability to differentiate causation between variables. For instance, Einwohner (1999) could show that personal identification as an activist and collective identification with a group are highly correlate with protest behavior, but that the formers do not necessarily cause latter. However, through the instrument of time-lagged correlations it could be determine. Variables came first in a sequence, but it cannot be determine which variable constitutes the cause and which variable constitutes the effect. On the other hand, experimental research is uniquely design to isolate and manipulate variables to the end of illuminating causation. Experimental research accomplishes this huge feet by the use of independent variables, the manipulated experimental factor; and dependent variables, the measured factor that changes as the independent variable is manipulate. By keeping the dependent variable constant and changing only the independent variable, social psychologists can isolate the exact effect that the first has on the second. Finally, survey research uses random sample, a method by which every member of a group has equal chance of inclusion, to extrapolate the results of a representative group onto a population. It is important to note that survey research is only meant to describe present variables and opinions, rather than predict the future likelihood of variables and opinions. Also the effect of question ordering and wording, response options, and unrepresented samples shows the possible pitfalls of bias that can affect survey results. Comparison between Related Fields The field of sociology overlaps with social psychology in some areas; but sociology is primarily concern with how groups and societies interact at the collectivist level, and social psychology is mainly involved with the individual psychology of social interaction. Also of consequence, is the general observation that sociology relies heavily on survey research and correlation research; whereas, social psychology takes into account a wealth of experimental methodology as well (Kearl, 2009). On the other end of the spectrum, clinical psychology overlaps with social psychology in that they both depend heavily on experimental research to verify their perspective hypotheses. The branch of general psychology usually referred to as personality psychology differs from social psychology by its emphasis on the difference between individuals rather than the effect that individuals have on each other. So to summarize, sociology overlaps with social psychology on the left because they both study social interaction, clinical psychology on the right because they both make heavy use of experimental research to validate their hypotheses, and personality psychology in the main because they both seek to understand the individual. Furthermore, sociology differs from social psychology because the former is more dependent on co relational and survey research, and social psychology differs from personality psychology in the emphasis of individual interaction over individual difference, respectively. Conclusion In conclusion, the conglomeration of research areas and methodologies that social psychology occupies is cosmopolitan and parsimonious in scope and applicability, meaning that even though social psychology be concern with several areas of research the field is still dedicate exclusively to understand how people think about, affect, and interact with one another on a psychology, biological, and social level. The practical working out of the field of social psychology in the area of research specifically encompasses the subjects of social intuition, the applicability of the field’s principles on everyday life, the construction of our social reality and what forces influence and shape our behavior. The field of social psychology takes advantage of experimental research, survey research, and company relational research to confirm hypotheses concerning the abovementioned subjects. Michael Jackson The King Of Pop Essay Example For Students

Michael Jackson: The King Of Pop Essay Many people would pass up listening to the styles of the new/old Michael Jackson, but do you know why? Why do people absolutely refuse to claim they have ever heard his music? Why do parents ban their childrens CD selection from some of his greatest hits, like Bad, or Thriller? Why do people hate him? Many reasons of course, some lies, some true, some public..and some private. As the story unfolds, Michael was very famous from the beginning of his life}. He started at such a young age, he doesnt remember much. His memories are so vague, he cant remember why a lot of people began hating him at THAT age. Well, one thing was that his sisters, LaToya, and Janet, werent included. In his book, Moonwalk, written a few years back, he stated that people would see them on the streets and shun them, saying they were sexist siblings and they should let the girls be in the group. Michael, of course, had no choice in this whole ordeal, which was hard on him, because him and Janet got along well, at the early ages. Seeing and hearing this stuff made Michael very optimistic, and sensitive on the situation. When Michael was in the Jackon-5, he had absolutely no freedoms. He would have late-night recordings, and would have troubles in school. Most of his attention from his parents was on the business, they never gave him the attention he lacked, he was pretty lonely. After Michael grew up, and he moved on in his career out of J-5, he was thought low of to everyone in the music/movie industry. Brooke Shields once quoted that he was a lowly-person, who needed help, plus some other things that cannot be said. Jackson did have some people of whom thought very high of him, Elizabeth Taylor was one of his best friends throughout the hard stages. He looked up to her, and vise versa. With the help of her, he got through the depression of his family members (LaToya mostly) disliking him, and disapproving of him. When Michael realized that his reputation was not the hottest on the press, he totally gave up on his self image, caring less on what he looked like, and began foolish rumors about himself. He use to tell reporters when they would ask him on his transformation to being white that his dad beat him to white. They of course gulped in every bit of information ever said, sarcastic, or not. They could turn his life into a big lie. Which was what Michael was wishing for, so that people wouldnt think of the other rumors about him. Jackson was pretty harsh on himself, he had many rumors about him, some of which are true, and to this day he isnt afraid/embarrassed to claim them. In his life, he has had 6 nose jobs. They all ruined his nose to the point where he had to use putty to transform the nose that he once had, but was corrupted by the irritability from the jobs. He had a undisclosed amount of Face lifts, and eye jobs. They, of which were in a short period of time, killed many cells in his face, and made him look even more pale then usual. He also had bone grafted cheek bones, he had this done over and over many times, and he still wasnt satisfied with his appearance, so he got a forehead lift. He was finally secured in feeling that it was a good personal image. Now, many people find it totally and completely disgusting and unnecessary. That is why he has a low image on people who believe that he didnt need all of these plastic surgeries. When Michael was going through his depression stages, he was lonely, and sad. So, he followed through what his ex-father-in-law did, and he bought a chimp to keep him company. His Chimps name was Bubbles. .uc81094fd87821362f4fc49f397edd20a , .uc81094fd87821362f4fc49f397edd20a .postImageUrl , .uc81094fd87821362f4fc49f397edd20a .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uc81094fd87821362f4fc49f397edd20a , .uc81094fd87821362f4fc49f397edd20a:hover , .uc81094fd87821362f4fc49f397edd20a:visited , .uc81094fd87821362f4fc49f397edd20a:active { border:0!important; } .uc81094fd87821362f4fc49f397edd20a .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uc81094fd87821362f4fc49f397edd20a { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uc81094fd87821362f4fc49f397edd20a:active , .uc81094fd87821362f4fc49f397edd20a:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uc81094fd87821362f4fc49f397edd20a .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uc81094fd87821362f4fc49f397edd20a .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uc81094fd87821362f4fc49f397edd20a .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uc81094fd87821362f4fc49f397edd20a .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uc81094fd87821362f4fc49f397edd20a:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uc81094fd87821362f4fc49f397edd20a .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uc81094fd87821362f4fc49f397edd20a .uc81094fd87821362f4fc49f397edd20a-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uc81094fd87821362f4fc49f397edd20a:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: PROCRASTINATION Essay Michael did everything with it, and it got famous too. Acquiescence free essay sample

The sound of crystal and glass blissfully tinkling against each other filled the clear night. The setting was fit for a joyous occasion, my sister?s wedding. My mind, however, was not completely set on the pleasing occasion. Amongst the chatter, a single word penetrated my ears like an oil drill. â€Å"Co-rre-a, our contentious Ecuadorian President, Co-rre-a†. My hands started to sweat. Such a word only meant one thing: political discussion. If there is something people should know about me, it is that I will never miss out on a political conversation. Anxiety sailed through my body. Nervousness nibbled at my fingernails. But why would I be worried about something I enjoyed so much? Why should I not join that conversation and just unleash my beliefs like I would unleash a mad, hungry dog? â€Å"May I offer you a drink sir?† The waiter?s voice abruptly interrupted my inner dilemma. I was actually glad he did; I needed a break. We will write a custom essay sample on Acquiescence or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page I asked for water. I spoke as if nothing was going on. It was an Oscar-winning accomplishment, given that I was dying on the inside. A reasonable decision seemed impossible. Failure seemed imminent. The people discussing politics were ten tables away from me. Words were unintelligible for those around me, but when it comes to politics my senses sharpen. I become a bat. The truth was I could not merely go berserk and cross the dance floor to get to the discussion, not after what my parents told me. To put it simply, it was hazardous for me to intervene. I take politics seriously, and resentments are usually created. I attract excessive amounts of attention, or in more serious cases, I break friendships after a humble say in a debate. I personally did not want that day to revolve around me. It was my sister?s wedding, and I was not desperate enough to go and wreck it to satisfy my passion. Correa. Correa. Correa. Could they be talking about his agrarian reforms? Ecuadorian oil policies? Exports? They were probably praising his hideous bureaucracy! Pigs! I could not take it anymore. What had I done to deserve such a burden? I slowly took a sip of my overly iced water. Why is every single thing overdone at weddings? It is exactly how the Ecuadorian government is run. Passing a policy is not enough. Oh no! They have to create a department to commemorate and promote that law, and the Ministry building has to be twenty stories high, and its walls must be painted green. A drop of cold sweat cruised down my forehead. What a disaster! I was on the verge of collapse. â€Å"Time for the family picture!† The photographer?s loud statement obliterated every sound, and fortunately the conversation that had me hypnotized for the last few minutes.. The ceremony went into a decrescendo, and I did not listen to the stimulating words after the picture. The perfect ending to this story would have been finding my antagonists in a cafe. I would buy them a cup of coffee while they listened to my points of view. They would then succumb to my arguments, and I would have my triumph. The truth is I failed. My cunning ambition was overpowered by my situation. However, this was a bittersweet defeat. I avoided spoiling my sister?s night, and there was no resentment in the process. On the other hand, I was forced to bite my tongue and keep my opinion to myself. It was then I realized the famous saying, â€Å"You never talk about politics, religion or money† is not entirely true. You just have to pick the right moments. There will be other battles with future work colleagues, fellow student government members and college classmates. I will have to pick my moments to discuss with them and make each opportunity count. After all, Ecuador deserves a president that makes his words count.

Life In New France essays

Life In New France essays The St. Lawerence was the largest river and most important river in New France. There were three cities in New France Quebec, Montreal, and Trois Riveriers. People depended on rivers and lakes for transportation. In warm weather they traveled by canoe, larger boats, or on rafts with sails. In wintertime they traveled by horse and sleigh on the frozen rivers. The French brought their customs and culture to New France and it became the way of life. All the land was owned by the king but was given to the seigneur to divide and give to the habitants. The seigneur would build a large house for him but he had to supply the habitants with church and a mill so the habitants could grind grain into flour. The habitants did not own the land but they were allowed to stay as long as they paid their dues. The people of New France had to produce their own food. The people of New France ate lots o meat from farm animals and also wild animals. They also grew trees that bare fruit. Most of their meals had milk or cheese. UK Consumer Protection Law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 4000 words

UK Consumer Protection Law - Essay Example This essay will examine these different legal provisions and their application and assess why they may not be effective in securing a cost effective remedy for the consumer, who would likely benefit from arbitration instead, which could involve lower costs. Internet sales are becoming increasingly common, but as discussed further below, the difficulties in establishing and proving a case through the application of the appropriate statutory provisions would make it an expensive process or consumers. The legal conditions pertaining to the sale of goods are governed by the Sale of Goods Act of 1979. Section 14(2) of the Act states that â€Å"where the seller sells goods in the course of a business, there is an implied term that the goods supplied under the Act are of satisfactory quality†1 unless existing defects are specifically bought to the buyer’s attention before the purchase or the buyer has the opportunity to examine the goods before purchase. The problems which arise in the case of Internet sales are that it is difficult for consumer to closely examine the goods that they are purchasing first hand; rather there is an implied condition that the goods are in a merchantable condition. On e-commerce websites such as e-ba y, purchasers are generally relying upon what they can see of a product in pictures which are posted on the site and relying upon the descriptions offered by the sellers and there may be little recourse available to remedy defects or deficiencies which are discovered later. In further defining what constitutes a â€Å"satisfactory quality† of the goods as defined under the Act, Section 14 (2A) of the Act states that â€Å"for the purposes of this Act, the quality of goods includes their state and condition and the following (among others) are in appropriate cases aspects of the quality of goods: (a)fitness for the purposes for which goods of the kind in question are commonly supplied (b) appearance and finish (c)freedom from minor defects

Reasons for Selecting Joanna Eberhart as a Representative in the Film Essay

Reasons for Selecting Joanna Eberhart as a Representative in the Film Stepford Wives - Essay Example During the year 1975 when the movie Stepford Wives was first released, it was widely regarded just as one of the chilling parables about men’s fears of feminism at the same time it was considered as a tale of horror which worked as a one of the social satire on bigotry. For sure, it struck a few women’s liberationists as a ham-fisted tried to cash in on the movements. Therefore it is curious that the term ‘Stepford’ wives that have really enjoyed such a strong meaning in our culture, is rarely used during a critique of sexism. The term has usually signified the kind of feminine perfectionism that is greatly evidenced in the domestic realm, though not necessarily in the services offered by husbands.   This clearly evokes the existing critique freak rather than hopeless submission that women have over their husbands as seen in the new 2004 film. Therefore, Eberhart Joanna is chosen to clearly bring out the subject of the story to show how men transform thei r wives into some cookie-baking robots. On the other hand, another most sticking thing regarding the original Stepford Wives, both the movie and the novel is generally how children occupy a small place. The protagonist Eberhart Joanna and her husband move out of Manhattan to a suburban Connecticut partially due to the reason that schools were much better there, though there is nothing else much about that fact is made. A Stepford Wives that acts as a satire today would definitely be different from its predecessor. It would be just as less about the project of trying to perfect children like that of perfecting wives. At the same time, it would be the collaboration between the ambitious mothers and fathers who always believe so much in the meritocracy as well as doing whatever it takes in order to rig it in the attention of their own offspring’s Ivy League prospects. This would be about shameless kind of string-pulling so as to get kids into the right nursery schools.

Understanding The Childhood And The State Sociology Essay

Understanding The Childhood And The State Sociology Essay The aim of this essay is to critically analyse both case studies by Virginia Morrow using arguments from the New Sociology of Childhood. The first part of the essay will discuss the concept of new sociology of childhood by explaining what it is, why it came about and what it main claims are. It will then move on to explore the findings of the above mentioned qualitative research of a group of children between 8 and 14 years of age in relation to their perspective on what they believe families to be. Children as social actors and childrens participation are key notions in what is considered as a modern day discourse. The implications discourses have in the ways in which children are portrayed and treated within society and the influence the actions taken by people and the judgement taken by them are often the subject of social constructionists. It is also well documented that different cultures can also have different perception, so can different situations and circumstances. In recent years, researchers have developed innovative methods for undertaking research with children. It has been customary to carry out research methods which have not directly involved children, for example, the study of children on a large scale and this has led to some disagreement by some sociologist because it is seen as carrying out a survey on children rather than with children. As an alternative, researchers have shifted towards the importance of giving the child a voice as social actors and being central in any research practise. It could be argued that most sociological policies and theories have in the past regarded children as being totally dependent, incapable, and dependent on their families to function successfully within a society. However, by adopting a childrens right perspective which is compatible with theoretical developments in the new sociology of childhood can mean that children have the power, skills, knowledge and resources to protect them. Children have been identified within the international framework of human rights as deserved of special consideration. As quoted by J. Eekelar à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“the language of rights performs an important function. It acknowledges that there are certain things which we should provide for children, not just because adults think it would be nice if they had them, but because we are prepared to recognise that children want them, or can reasonably be assumed to want themà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ . (J.Eekelar Why Children? Why Rights? 2003) According to (James and Prout 1997) children are referred as active social agents and reliable informants of their own experience, who construct and shape the social structures and processes of their lives. Followers to this theory pay much attention to how children perceive the world around them and that they have their own distinctive way of looking at family life whereby the relationship is seen as a two way process with the child and the parent have a shared influence on any decisions taken. The research, by Morrow proposes that the majority of children do not want to make decision but rather would prefer to make a contribution to ther decision making process. None the less, there are some theorists who do not consider children as having sufficient protection even today. One of the sociologists is Melanie Philips who makes a case that the traditions of parenthood in the UK has broken down and that childhood simplicity has been destabilized by those with open mind which in turn could mean that children are given too many powers and rights. Other would suggest that the concept of cnew theory of childhood has become much more complicated and that there is an indication that the idea of a traditional childhood is yet again being lost. It is argued that this is not because of lack of understanding but through the lack of economic equality. Combined with the sophisticated and business-like way of living, it could be believed that childhood has somewhat been reduced as a result to the exposure to more adult information creating a child that is much more interested in everyday materialistic objects, and as such à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“expelled from the garden of childhoodà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ (Postman, 1983) According to (Leacock 1981), within the new sociology of childhood, one of the key elements is that children should be considered as social actors, and by doing this, children are then taken from the idea of being objects, and to be studied on the basis that childrens beliefs and experiences do give insight into the meaning of childhood (Callinicos,1993). The research by Virginia Morrow (1998) was undertaken to explore two current phenomena . Firstly, that children of today experience quite varied family settings on their way to adulthood The second phenomena was in relation to the changes that have occurred in recent sociological theories whereby children should be listened to and importance given to what they have to say. The study looked at what childrens perceptions were on the family unit and how this might differ between cultures and background. It appeared that for many of the children, regardless of their ethnic background, their life revolved around their family or the extended family. One of the main findings was that childrens view in the main does not concur to what is considered as stereotypical notion of what a nuclear family is. Another key finding was that all the children included words such as care, support love and respect when describing what characteristics of family. Again this was though regardless of ethnic background, where they came from or their gender. A difference was found between children of different ages, as younger children saw having children and being in a marriage as the basis to a family and backed this up with examples from their own families. Older children were more ready to look at things outside their own domain. Many of the children referred to the term relations when describing their family and many were aware that individuals were related in different ways such as through marriage or genetically. In general, children explained that families were important to them and they saw their own family as any other family in general. When the question of who was important to them, the answer was parents, especially their mothers because they provide love and care. For some of the children, their sisters and brothers were seen as important to them. It appeared from their reactions that friendship was very important so some older children, especially girls. Finally, when asked about being listened to and being able to give their opinion, the children needed to be involved in decision making and have their say in what happens to them. Some considered that they were being listened to by their families while other did not. Some of the older children however, did mentioned that making a decision was not an easy task. On reflection therefore, the aim of this essay was to analyse the above mentioned case studies taking the new sociology of childhood into consideration. It could be said that discourses offer different and contrasting ways of thinking about children and childhood and as a consequence how they are viewed and treated by society. What this discussion serves to highlight is that there are conflicting thoughts surrounding the concept of childhood and that there is no clear right or wrong way of looking at what childhood conveys.

Destruction and Dishonesty Due to Ambition

Even the most honorable men in history have lose their dreams due to their ambitions, much like Jay Gatsby from The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Macbeth in William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Ambition, usually defines as a positive characteristic. However Ambition also contains many perils since it is excess. In many ways, the similarities and difference in the ambitions of Gatsby and Macbeth lead to their external and internal destructions, and their loss of integrity at earlier and later stages. To begin with, Gatsby and Macbeth both have external destructions to others due to their ambition. Through the story, Gatsby tries to win back the girl of his dream. He would rather ruin the marriage between Tom and Daisy in order to approach his dream girl. â€Å"‘She never loved you, do you hear? ’ he cried. ‘She only married you because I was poor and she was tired of waiting for me. It was a terrible mistake, but in her heart she never loved anyone except me’† (Fitzgerald 131). It shows how Gatsby’s ambition of love challenges Tom and his marriage with Daisy. Similar as Gatsby, Macbeth also destroys many people even their lives due to his ambition. Following the prophecy of witches, Macbeth tries to kill everyone who will interfere his kingship, even his comrade Banquo is murdered by his conspiracy. The murder was awarded by Macbeth orally, â€Å"Thou art the best o' th' cutthroats: / Yet he’s good that did the like for Fleance. / If thou didst it, thou art the nonpareil. † (3. 4. 18-20) Thus, Gatsby and Macbeth all destruct others because of their ambitions. Secondly, at the early stages of both two works, Both Gatsby and Macbeth lose their integrities because of their ambitions. Gatsby knows it is important to be rich, because that can attract Daisy, so his methods of becoming rich are that of doing illegal activities and lying about his poor background. â€Å"’He’s a bootlegger,’ said the young ladies, moving somewhere between his cocktails and his flowers. † (61) For the purpose of approaching Daisy, Gatsby sells illegal alcohols during in the past. Although this is dishonesty, it is the only way to become rich quickly. Just as Gatsby, Macbeth believes the prophecy from the witches that he will one day become a king; as a result, he decides to assassinate Duncan in order to fulfill his ambition faster. After Lady Macbeth motivates Macbeth to murder Duncan, Macbeth says: â€Å"I am settled and bend up / Each corporal agent to this terrible feat. † (1. 7. 80-81) The quote reveals that Macbeth has determined to execute the Duncan. Therefore, Macbeth’s ambition makes him to lose his integrity. Even though the similarities of external destruction and earlier period of dishonesty both are identified from Gatsby and Macbeth, there are still many differences between them. The internal destructions of Gatsby and Macbeth are quite distinct. Gatsby comes as an inferior beginning. For Gatsby, lying about his identities cannot make him realize that he is slowly destroying himself from the inside. When Nick mentions that Gatsby may not recall his past, Gatsby says that: â€Å"Can’t repeat the past? †¦ Why of course you can! † (111) Gatsby does not feel his personal downfall after he amasses the fortune that he believes now. Unlike Gatsby, Macbeth is at first a loyal general of Duncan’s army. However, his identity falls from a noble man to an evil killer, turning Macbeth into a psychological destruction. â€Å"First, as I am his kinsman and his subject, / Strong both against the dead; then, as his host, / Not bear the knife myself. † (1. 7. 13-16) In this soliloquy, Macbeth debates whether he should kill Duncan since he notices the loyalty that he toward his king. Meanwhile, Macbeth admits that he has â€Å"†¦only / Vaulting ambition, which o’erleaps itself / And falls on th’ other. † (1. 7. 6-28) Thus, this ambition directly leads to Macbeth’s moral destruction. When both Gatsby and Macbeth reach their goal, Gatsby only cheats for what he wants which is Daisy. But Macbeth continues to follow the witches’ prediction, and begins to kill more people. Gatsby, in the whole story, lies only in order to convince Daisy that he is the greatest man, in aspects such as wealthy assents, and outstanding education. The conversations between Tom and Gatsby provide that Gatsby cheats his education background. â€Å"‘By the way, Mr. Gatsby, I understand you’re an Oxford man. ’ /‘Not exactly. / ‘Oh, yes, I understand you went to Oxford. ’ / ‘Yes — I went there. ’† (129) Macbeth, however, trusts the prediction firmly later on. He follows the indications, and he lies and kills many innocent people. â€Å" The castle of Macduff I will surprise, / Seize upon Fife, give to th’ edge o’ th’ sword / His wife, his babes, and all unfortunate souls / That trace him in his line. † (4. 1. 156-160) When Lennox tells Macbeth that Macduff has fled to England, Macbeth enlightens and resolves to send murderers to capture Macduff’s castle and to kill Macduffâ€⠄¢s wife and children. So Gatsby and Macbeth all lose their integrities at the beginning Nevertheless Gatsby maintains his falsity, Macbeth deteriorates his baneful of integrity. Lastly, it can be drawn into a conclusion that ambitions lead both Gatsby and Macbeth to their destruction on other people and themselves, and their loss of integrities in different time periods. Admittedly, ambitions belong to advantageous individual’s trait; it has conducive effects on personal pursuit. However, ambition also can lead the destruction and dishonesty much like Gatsby and Macbeth if the ambition is unchecked.

Good education Essay

The plot tells you what happens in a story, but the theme tells you what the story is about: What is the underlying message? What is driving the action? It is also helpful to ask â€Å"why†: Why did the author choose this setting or this conflict? Why did the author choose this tone? Why are these characters behavinI agree the â€Å"The Road Not Taken† (Frost, 1916) has a journey or pilgrimage theme, for the person in the poem is struggling with his personal journey in life. Specifically, he is trying to decide which road in life to take. You did an excellent job identifying the major symbol in Frost’s poem, the road itself, and your angle is fresh and unique. Until now, I never considered the fact that one of the roads represents a path or pattern he has been on already for a period of time. Whereas, the other road is change. Many of us wonder how life would be, if we choose to change courses. Honestly, in the past, I thought of the roads in terms of difficulty. I was thinking one road is more challenging than the other and will require more out of the person to get to the destination. For example, I wonder how different my life would be if I decided to pursue a Masters degree in Creative Writing at the New School for Social Research in New York like I originally intended to do instead of enrolling in a Master’s program that was not geared towards producing society’s next writers. Instead of living the life of a writer and earning my sole living from it, I went down  another, less traveled road–the one that ends with me earning a post-doctorate degree, lecturing/presenting research at scholarly conferences, and writing non-fiction. I am still traveling as you can see, for the road is long, a marathon to say the least, and requires dedication, and perseverance. For those reasons, many may choose not to take that road, because it is a longer, more challenging journey. Here, I see how the color yellow would symbolize age, too. Over time, we must eventually choose one of the two roads. g this way? Why should we care?
